View Full Version : AK47 folding stock

9th May 2013, 06:24 PM
I ordered this http://dx.com/p/nylon-plastic-stock-for-ak-gun-series-black-184707 a few weeks back and it arrived today, but it doesn't fit my AK's lower receiver :( it use to have a standard full stock on it.
Does anyone know if there is an adapter i need to attach the new folding stock?
Or will i need an entirely new lower receiver? If so, does anyone know one that will fit the new folding stock? ;)

To be honest, that looks like a Real-Steel AK stock mount, rather than an Airsoft version.
Compare with this one...
ApexGunParts AK Stock (https://www.apexgunparts.com/product_info.php/cPath/72_142/products_id/842)
Does this one look like it would fit?
AK-Folding-Stock (http://dx.com/p/foldable-gun-stock-for-ak-machinegun-black-105925)
There are several different types of AK Receiver (just like the real ones), what make/model is yours?
Can you post a picture of your receiver rear-end, with the current stock removed?

Most AKs are fairly 'tight' for space around the back of the Gearbox.
It may be posssible to modify the Folder to fit your current Stock mounting.

Ah yeah that other one looks like it might be a better fit. The receiver is a Double Eagle (I know, not the best aha) but I don't know how to post a picture on here unfortunately. I'm not very experienced at posting on the forum aha :(

If you can get a pic onto your Laptop/PC, you'll need to then upload it to a picture hosting site like Photobucket or Picasa, they're free to register.
Once you've done that, the site will give the picture a set of links that you copy and paste into the reply you post here, the one you need is the 'IMG' link.

Hopefully that worked...thanks for the help!

Yes, that came out OK.
That receiver has very little room for anything at the back, the stock mount on those is quite fragile simply because there's so little of it.
It might be possible to modify the mounting of the Stock you bought, to fit like the original solid-stock block does, or maybe to mount it externally to the block, but neither would be particularly strong in my opinion, and would require a bit of work.

If you do a Google image search for 'Folding Airsoft AK', you'll see that they mostly either have longer receivers, or extensions on the back.
Those that don't will be Steel items, with built-in hinge points, like this D-Boys one...
Can't beleive they're asking $500 for that

Your best bet may be to sell-on the one you got, and try to find a more suitable item.
That or buy a replacement receiver that has a folding stock, or look out for a knackered/tatty/non-working S/Hand AK with a folding stock.

You don't see many side-folding AK stocks being retro-fitted, now you know why that is ;)

Okay thanks for all your help! I think I'll just buy an AK47s receiver with the folding stock built in :)

When you're looking, be sure to check if it's compatible with the rest of your AK internals and externals.
Most are OK to swap bits around with, but there are a few that aren't, not without a bit of modification anyway.

Yeah I'll have a search around, thanks again!

No problem Harry, remember to post your progress here.

I'm planning to make my own folding stock for an AK, probably a Romanian type, I'll post it on here once I get the time to do it.

Hey Doc,
i'm after a SAK 39 full metal underslung stock for my 'TSD Tactical SRC Gen II Full Metal AK47-ADV Rifle' internet shows it is a generic AK fitment can you let me know if thats correct....before I purchase one..please

Terry (Marshal)

Not sure about that Terry.
As long as it's a generic Airsoft fitment, then you should be OK, but don't quote me on that ;).
It may still need a 'tweak' with a file or Dremel.

thanks for the info Doc...
